Top 10 Horror Scenes

To give you some more ideas for the upcoming Chicago’s #ShareYourScare campaign we’re looking at the top 10 horror scenes of all time.

Prepare to get goose bumps…

10. The Carrie blood shower. This scene makes the top 10 for shock value - innocent girl drenched in blood at school prom – of course it’s what comes next that is properly terrifying.

9. The Exorcist pea soup. It’s old school horror at its best and one of the most recreated scenes of all time.

8. Pet Cemetery’s Zelda. Mention this on any horror movies blog and you’ll have people terrified just at the thought of Zelda’s scenes. Zelda’s attack on Rachel is one of the most horrifying scenes in the film, in particular the scuttle towards the camera.

7. Night of the Living Dead graveyard. The worst thing about this scene is the way Johnny jokes that the stumbling man in the distance is coming to ‘get’ Barbara. Shortly before the stumbling man murders Johnny and all the zombies appear.

6. Poltergeist mirror. Gruesome. That’s the only word to describe this scene that sees Marty tearing chunks of his own face off in the bathroom mirror…

5. The Ring TV scene. It’s the oldest fear in the book – fiction becoming reality and in the most scary way when Sadako crawls out of the TV.

4. The Omen All For Damien. Demonic children are scary enough but perhaps the contrast of a happy, beguiling child and its hidden sinister influence is the most unnerving – this is one scene that illustrates that perfectly

3. Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal’s Escape. What more logical way to make your escape than by killing a guard, skinning him and wearing his skin like a suit…

2. Alien chestburster. Another iconic piece of horror that will live long in the minds any anyone who sees it. All the more scary because it was so shocking an unexpected.

1. Audition, needle torture. A Japanese horror involving extreme acupuncture and amputation, enough said.

Hopefully these horrible scenes will have provided some gruesome inspiration for your Halloween this year. Remember to post your scary tricks and treats with the #ShareYourScare hashtag!
